Tadao Kondo was born in Nagoya (Japan) in 1941. He received B.Sc. from Gifu Pharmaceutical University in 1965, MS from Department of Agricultural Chemistry, Nagoya University in 1967. Jointing the Department as a researching staff on synthesis of nucleoside chemistry, he obtained PhD from Nagoya University in 1973 under the direction of Professor Toshio Goto. He then jointed Professor R.U. Lemieux group as a post-doc in Department Chemistry at University of Albata, Canada in 1973-1975. In 1979 he moved to Chemical Instrument Center at Nagoya University as a research associate, and then in 1993 he became an associate Professor. In 1998 he received The Chemical Society of Japan Award for Creative Work. In 2000 he moved Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University as Professor of Polymer and Organic Chemistry. After his retirement in 2005 he is working as a research fellow in Information Science (Dr. Kumi Yoshida) at Nagoya University and serving as a Buddhist monk. His research field is natural product chemistry, such as synthesis of nucleosides, carbohydrates and flavonoids, mechanism of flower color development and structural analysis of natural products.
